Pomeroy is located in Calhoun County in central Iowa.

Pomeroy was platted in 1870 in anticipation of the railroad being built through the settlement. It was named for Charles Pomeroy, an Iowa politician.

During the National Bank Note Era, the population of Pomeroy was 910 in 1900, dropping to 826 in 1930. It's highest population was 910 in 1900, and the current population is estimated at 623 (2016).
